The countryside around our farm is called the Sienese Montagnola. Pristine woods make room for cultivated areas, vinards and olive tree orchards. Winding paths meander through the dense oak woods leading to old churches and villages.
The small village of S. Colomba is the nearest inhabited center, about 1.5 kilometers (one mile) away. There you will find a beautiful romanesque church and a splendid Renaissance villa, overseeing the sloping countryside.
From La Gavina you can reach Monteriggioni,
Abbadia Isola, the Castle of Celsa or the picturesque medieval monastery of
S. Leonardo al Lago in a few hour walks.
In addition to a large variety of plants and flowers,
the woods are host to numerous wild animals such as bores, deer, goats, badgers,
wolves, porcupines, pheasants, doves and others.
